Buying Barbie Collector Harley Davidson Doll

I have to admit, Barbie is not my primary doll for collecting. In fact, we bought this doll for my daughter's collection. But when we actually took her out of the box, I have to confess I was smitten--absolutely smitten--with this doll's face.

Her makeup is really perfect for this look. She's got smokey eyes, but very neutral lips (check out my real-life photos of this doll!). Her hair is heavily gelled in the front, and came attached to her "leather" bustier (which really does lace up in the back).

The outfit is pretty cool, without looking trashy. She's wearing jeans under her pink "leather" chaps. And her bustier is pretty over-the-top, and she does have an angel tattoo on her back (just be aware of this if you're buying her for a younger collector). She has over-sized gunmetal gray hoop earrings that really pull together her look, and of course, black motorcycle boots and an airbrushed helmet.

My one complaint with this doll is her hair. I wish Mattel would fix its packaging on the collector dolls. More often than not, when you debox a doll, the hair just looks like a rat's nest in the back. However, in this case, Barbie rides a motorcycle. Heck, everyone who has ever ridden on a motorcycle knows your hair gets messed up. So that's why I still can rate this doll five stars. Shop For Barbie Fairy-Tastic Pink/Purple Princess Doll

As much as I love the Barbie line, the fairies always seem to suffer from design flaws. What you don't see in the pictures on amazon or on the box is that this fairy has all kinds of plastic pieces coming out her back. These pieces are so that the 'gimmick' of having the wings turn into a skirt in one motion of the arms would work. It makes the back of the doll kind of ugly and the skirt stick out weird in order to do the 'gimmick' movement.

I wish (and thought) this was more like the 3 musketeers barbies where the skirt does double duty (cape/skirt) but isn't attached to plastic pieces in the back. And like the Mariposa doll and other fairies, kids just don't like those plastic pieces in back. When you don't have wings permanently attached, they just fall off. All the time.

As others noted, getting this doll out of the package is a true pain. Getting the wings on the doll for the gimmick is even more annoying. Within 5 minutes, the wing gimmick trick no longer worked right and the crown fell off. I really wish they'd sew the crowns to the head.

So yeah, yet another failure. Instead of this doll, buy the new Mermaid dolls. Those have tails of soft vinyl that make the mermaid posable and much more fun to play. She loves it, absolutely loves it. The socket-ed arms and pose-able legs are like the quality of the old Barbies. I would definitely recommend. Only thing is that, the sword, while appearing flexible, does break. We used a hot glue gun to reinforce the break and is fine now. Superglue leaves white residue. Other than that , it's great. The girls pointed out that this girl was suppose to have fans, as per the character from the movie, so they are making those now. Mattel Lacking in Product Presentation - Holes in Fabric

Why does Mattel insist on poking a hole through every fine fabric costume on collectible dolls with a needle and thread or plastic t-tie? Just try to remove the doll from the box without having a snag in the fabric. I struggled to remove the doll without pulling the t-ties through the fabric. It made two holes/snags in each pleat in the FRONT of the gown. The doll dress is simply too long to fit in the box without wrinkling.

After the millions of dolls they have sold, could their staff devise a way to keep the doll in the box without having to sew the dress to the box?

If the collector wishes to display the doll outside the box, they must try to carefully remove the thread - which still leaves the hole poked through the fabric in front of gown.

Why would someone pay this much money for a doll with a with holes punched through the fabric?

Madame Alexander - a premier doll manufacturer years - has for years securely fastened their dolls with a simple ribbon or rigid plastic forms. Why can't Mattel do the same?

Low Price Barbie Collector Holiday Doll (Aa)

This doll is, in a word, gorgeous. My daughter received her as a gift, and she is really amazing--actually, her face sculpt is prettier than the caucasian version of the same doll, in my humble opinion. If you have questions about her skin tone, you can see my real-life photos.

The product packaging is really pretty, and we were able to debox her without messing up her gorgeous hair. However, I am beginning to see why some collectors prefer to leave their dolls in the boxes--let me just again state how elegant the packaging was.

Her gown is nicely made--red velvet with white faux fur trim--and has lots of details: black lace, a tiny black belt with a rhinestone buckle. And it falls just right in the front as well. She includes appropriately gaudy gold and rhinestone jewelry, too.

The doll herself has soft and sparkling make-up--very Christmas-y. She appears to be the model muse body (I think), and her knees do not bend. Not terrific for play, but my girls don't seem mind at all. She's really lovely.

This is indeed the African American Holiday Barbie from 2007. I'm not sure what the other reviews of this product are about, actually--if people are having issues reading product descriptions before they purchase an item, well... I can't help that. Personally, I think the time for debating skin tones is over.
